Separation Anxiety in Canines – Facts on Different Breeds

Most of the time, it has been seen that dog comes first in place to keep as a pet, when asked to people. Dogs are titled as social and friendly animal. They always love to surround themselves with lovable people. Have your neighbor ever complained about the incessant barking of your dog when you left them alone in house? Or have you noticed that your dog tears the furniture and other things of house When you are not around? These gestures of your dog show that they are having the separation anxiety problem. All the dogs do not develop separation anxiety. There are some breeds that develop separation anxiety.


These 12 breeds are prone to separation anxiety:

1. Labrador retriever: Labrador retriever is seen as most friendly breed of all. They develop separation anxiety very fast. They dislike to be left alone for a long period of time. They always need attention and care.

2. German shepherd: German shepherds are used to and still perform various tasks. Though they are highly intelligent, they develop the separation anxiety. A decline in their health is shown when they are left alone.

3. Australian shepherd: Australian shepherd is recognized as highly creative and energetic breed of dog. They are also prone to separation anxiety. They feel bored and lazy if left away from their people for a long time.

4. Border Collie: An intelligent, highly energetic and obedient breed. They need mental stimulation from preventing boredom turning into separation anxiety.

5. Cocker Spaniel: Cocker spaniel is a sporting dog. A gun hunt breed that loves splashing around the water. A family companion dog that cannot tolerate loneliness.

6. Viszla: A good natured breed and known to be a “Velcro” dog that get easily attached to anyone. They always need special attention. Less companionship leads to major separation anxiety.

7. Bichon Fries: A lovable and cute looking dog with whom you love to play around. They do not do well when left back alone.

8. Havanese: A small looking dog who makes great friendly relation with human. They do not work well when kept alone for long time.

9. Jack Russell Terrier: A small dog breed developed in England. A lively, independent and friendly towards humans. They work well when surrounded by loved ones. This breed is also included in separation anxiety problem.

10. German shorthaired pointer: A popular German gun dog famous for hunting. Even though recognized as hunting dog they are not aggressive. Most of the time they are friendly with other dogs. Keeping them alone is not a wise call.

11. Toy poddles: A little cute dog bred for companion need constant attention of people around. They are smart and a benevolent natured dog. They don’t like to be left back alone for long.

12. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: A smallest spaniel breed who enjoys hiking and running on beach. A companion dog breeds who loves to play around the people. This breed is included in separation anxiety development. You cannot leave them alone for long time.

Above 12 breeds are prone to separation anxiety. If you are planning to adopt a dog and you have busy schedule that you are unable to take out much time from your busy schedule then give a second thought before adopting these dogs.
